LGBTQ+ YOUTH PROGRAM
It is imperative for any kind of gender-based violence prevention worker/institution should to be able to work with the individuals of the transgender communities. Understanding this intersection of identities is critical to working with youth.
The LGBTQ+ Youth Program’s purpose is to not only begin the conversation of integrating and including Transgender and/or people in the Queer community within domestic violence and sexual assault prevention work, but also bring the cultural aspect of bringing transgender or/and queer experience into Hmong conversations of gender roles etc.
This program focuses on the self and society; breaking down social constructs such as gender, race, class, etc. and finding ways to navigate the world as a transgender and/or non-binary gender fluid youth through workshops and interactive activities. In addition, we also practice self-care and-- to the best of our ability--create a “safe” space that is inclusive of all identities through the maintenance and building of professional and interpersonal relationships.
Goals of Youth Program:
provide a safe space and a support network for LGBTQ+ HMoob youth
connect them culturally, socially, emotionally, and politically through safe, confidential open dialogue
exploring what it means to be queer AND HMoob
When: Every Wednesdays after school to 6pm
**transportation provided, please contact our Youth Advocate**
