HMONG UNITED FOR JUSTICE

Hmong college students and community members formed Hmong United for Justice (HUJ) in late 2014 when news of an assault on a Hmong hunter came to light on social media. The news came after a month of silence from media outlets and the police.

All of us have spoken of "wishing someone would do something" about the racist issues we have witnessed as young people and the hatred the generations before us have endured. We realized that if we want to see change happen, we need to make it happen because we are the ones we have been waiting for.

Today, HUJ is made up of a group of young community member activists across Wisconsin. Our work is grounded in the principles of decolonization, justice, equity and liberation. We aim to elevate Hmong communities by employing a critical framework on Hmong-related issues/situations/realities/experiences. This means that we hope to amplify Hmong standpoints and truth speaking. We hope that in doing this, we can empower Hmong communities and work on a path towards healing our communities.
